Welcome – Andrew Haworth

We are delighted to welcome Andrew Haworth to the team and recently caught up with him to find a little bit more about our newest starter.

What have been some of the most important lessons that you have learned throughout your career?

I studied music at college and worked various jobs including support worker, team leader and turnstile operator before becoming a foster carer. I had to leave the fostering behind due to my family situation at the time so I decided upon a change of career and entered the construction sector. I studied bricklaying and construction and the built environment whilst driving for ASDA. I then became an Apprentice Building Surveyor, but it was not the right fit for me, which led me to begin my journey as an Estimator with Bridgman!

Do you have a professional success story that you’re proud of?

I ran all building surveying aspects for an internal scheme, consisting of 240+ properties requiring kitchen, bathroom, boiler and rewire replacements/works.

What does your job at Bridgman entail?

Good, professional communication with clients, build strong relationships with them and respond to their enquiries to provide a comprehensive estimate for the works.

How have you found your first few weeks with the company?

There is a good, relaxed atmosphere in the office. I have been made to feel very welcome and everyone is very approachable.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

Everyone is willing to help each other where possible.

How do you see yourself developing in your role?

I think once I am competent and independent at performing my role, I will seek opportunities to progress. I enjoy studying and learning and see this as an opportunity.

What techniques or tools help you to stay organised and productive?

I feel that I learn best through doing the activity with prompts / guidance where required, following brief visual / audible instructions. I would call myself a kinaesthetic learner. I am a notetaker too, I like to be able to refer to notes, to remind me of processes. Notetaking helps me stay organised in general.

Do you have any strategies for dealing with stress at work?

Deal with tasks in priority order and break them down into steps. Communicate with colleagues to discuss any issues and ask for help when required.

What are your hobbies and interests?

Football (playing and spectating) and supporting Burnley Football Club, spending time with my family, going on family outings, walking, table tennis, pool, museums, sightseeing, exploring old buildings.

Do you have an interesting fact about yourself or a secret talent that you can share with us?

I can play the piano and I also had a poem published in a book when I was 9 years old.

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

Coffee.

What’s your favourite type of food or cuisine?

Indian.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

I would love to go to the states with my family and just explore as much as possible for a few months in a big RV. I would like go and see the Colorado hot springs and visit Las Vegas, New York, etc.
